Frequently Asked Questions
What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a process that allows people to tap into their innate potential for growth and encourages them to put their internal thoughts and feelings into words. The process offers a unique opportunity to work through internal and external obstacles and gain clarity on what matters to you.
Exploring your experience in conversation with someone who is trained to listen without preconceived notions can generate an improved sense of understanding, connection, and wellbeing. Benefits outside of the office include greater emotional flexibility, more satisfying relationships, and the strength to work through things from the past that were once painful and destabilizing.
Why are you a psychotherapist?
I am a psychotherapist because I feel great value in providing people with a space where they can be empowered to have a different kind of relationship with themselves. The best part of my job is being granted permission to participate in and help facilitate someone's process of looking inward — and I take that gesture of faith very seriously.
Powerful things can happen when people are given a nonjudgmental space to talk about their experience and someone else is there to listen. It is very satisfying to work in a way that is at once deeply emotional, intellectual, and experiential.
What type of therapy do you practice?
I practice psychodynamic psychotherapy and relational psychoanalysis in my Union Square office. This approach focuses on understanding how past experiences and unconscious patterns influence current thoughts, feelings, and relationships. The work is insight-oriented and collaborative.
Do you work with college students and young adults?
Yes — I have extensive experience working with college students, graduate students, and young adults navigating identity, relationships, academic pressures, and life transitions. I worked as a clinician at NYU's Student Health Center and Wellness Exchange, and I run a closed young adult interpersonal process group for those ages 18–25.
Is psychotherapy confidential?
Yes, everything we discuss will remain confidential. In very rare cases, the law may require me to disclose information if I learn of the abuse of a child, or of a serious risk of suicide or harm to others. We can discuss confidentiality in person so I can clarify any concerns.
Where is your office located?
My office is located at 18 East 16th Street, Suite 503 in Manhattan, near Union Square and the Flatiron District. The office is easily accessible by subway — the 4, 5, 6, N, Q, R, W, and L trains all stop nearby.
How often will we meet?
At the start of therapy, we will meet at least once weekly. Sometimes more frequent sessions may be indicated — when a greater level of support is needed, or to allow for deeper work.
What is your cancellation policy?
Therapy works best when sessions are attended regularly and consistently. That said, some situations are unavoidable — if you need to cancel, please contact me as soon as possible. If you are unable to provide 48 hours notice, you will be billed for the session.
Do you accept insurance?
I am in network with the New School's Aetna Student Health Plan and NYU's Wellfleet Student Health Plan. I am not in network with any other insurance. If you have out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursement — plans with out-of-network coverage often reimburse up to 80% of therapy costs after the deductible is met.
I can provide invoices with the necessary information for reimbursement. To find out if your plan offers out-of-network benefits, consider asking your insurance provider:
- Does my plan include out-of-network mental health benefits, and do I need preauthorization?
- Do I have an out-of-network deductible, and has it been partially or fully met?
- What is the coverage amount or percentage for reimbursement?
